Why logistics networks are hard

A dark store that opens late loses orders from the first hour. Logistics businesses open sites faster than fixed lines can be delivered. A new warehouse in an industrial belt may wait weeks for fibre. A dark store runs on one broadband line until it fails at peak hour. Hubs and cross-docks move, and vehicles never stop moving. Meanwhile, handheld scanners, the WMS, CCTV, weighbridges and printers all share the same network. India's National Logistics Policy aims to bring logistics costs to global benchmarks and move India into the top 25 of the Logistics Performance Index by 2030. Its Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) connects more than 30 digital systems and had handled over 160 crore digital transactions by August 2025. Every one of those transactions depends on a site that stays online.

One design for every logistics site

Different sites need different edges, not different policies. Here is how we usually match the edge to the site. All of them run NexappOS and one policy model.

Warehouse SD-WAN: new sites online on day 1

Your new warehouse should not wait for an engineer or a fibre line. You pre-register devices by serial number and link them to a site template. The router calls home over cellular at power-on and pulls its full configuration. Wired links can follow later, and SD-WAN adds them to the same policy. In our largest rollout, 2,500 ATM sites moved from VSAT to dual-LTE with day-1 zero-touch provisioning. Logistics sites follow the same process.

  • Application-aware steering. WMS, billing and payment traffic take the best link. Bulk uploads and CCTV take the cheaper one.
  • Sub-second failover. SLA probes measure loss, latency and jitter on every link, and move critical traffic before users notice.
  • Per-SIM data tracking. You see data usage against each plan, with alarms, so a camera upload does not burn a month's data in a day.
  • Signal visibility. RSRP, RSRQ, SINR and CSQ per SIM, with a ranking of your worst-signal sites.

Secure access for handhelds, WMS and CCTV

One infected laptop on a flat warehouse network can stop the scanners. Nexapp keeps each kind of device in its own segment.

  • Separate segments for handheld scanners, the WMS and ERP, CCTV, weighbridges and printers, staff Wi-Fi and guest or driver Wi-Fi, using VLANs, VRFs and zone firewall rules.
  • Threat protection at the edge: IPS, gateway antivirus, web filtering and InstaShield IP reputation blocking at every site. See NGFW.
  • Reach devices without exposing them. SD-LAN lets your support team reach a camera or printer behind the router, with no port open to the internet.
  • Remote staff and partners reach only the applications they need through the InstaAccess client (ZTNA, SSL VPN or IPsec VPN). See SSE/ZTNA.

Fleet 4G routers and in-vehicle networks

A vehicle is a branch that moves. Your trucks, vans and buses carry telematics units, cameras, driver tablets and sometimes passenger Wi-Fi. An in-vehicle router gives them one managed connection.

  • Two operators on the move. Dual-SIM arbitration switches operator by signal, latency or data usage as the vehicle crosses coverage gaps.
  • Location. The IR1180DM has GPS for location data and location-aware alarms.
  • Wi-Fi for crews and devices, kept on a separate segment from vehicle systems.
  • Reach in-vehicle devices such as cameras through SD-LAN, without exposing them to the internet.
  • Fleet-wide control. Configuration, alarms and signed firmware updates for every vehicle from one console, with canary rollout and rollback. Out-of-band management works on SIMs with no public IP.

Vehicle installations have their own power and temperature conditions. Ask us for the operating temperature, power input and mounting details of each model before you plan a vehicle fleet. See in-vehicle networks.

One console, flat pricing

Your network team should not grow every time you open a hundred dark stores. Instaroute SDWAN Lite 2.0 manages up to 100,000 routers per deployment. You pay a flat per-device price with no data metering on management or remote access. You get 23 alarm metrics and 15 ready-made alarm rules covering signal, data usage, link state and device health. You can run it hosted by Nexapp in India or self-hosted. NexParth AI answers questions about your fleet from live data and proposes a fix, then waits for your approval before it acts. See SDWAN Lite 2.0.

Managing a local broadband provider in every town is a job in itself. With Network as a Service, we supply the last mile through the Nexapp Connectivity Suite. It covers 10,000+ service providers across 100,000+ pin codes. We also supply the hardware, SD-WAN and security, site deployment and 24×7 NOC operations, on one subscription per site. Our Pune NOC raises and follows up faults with the last-mile provider for you. See managed services.

Data protection for customers and drivers

Delivery addresses, phone numbers and driver locations are personal data. The DPDP Rules, 2025 bring substantive duties into force from May 2027. They include reasonable security safeguards such as encryption, access control and logs kept for at least a year, and breach reporting. Encrypted tunnels on every link, identity-based access and configurable log retention help you meet them. CERT-In's 2022 Directions also require incident reports within 6 hours and 180 days of ICT logs kept in India. Our management and logs are hosted in India or in your own data centre. The obligations remain with your organisation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best network solution for a logistics company in India?

One that brings sites online before fixed lines arrive, fails over between two operators, and covers vehicles as well as buildings.

Nexapp combines zero-touch Instaroute 4G/5G routers, SD-WAN for larger warehouses and one console with one policy across every site.

How fast can a new warehouse or dark store go live?

On the day the router arrives, if cellular coverage is available.

The router calls home over 4G or 5G at power-on, is recognised by its serial number and pulls its configuration. Fibre or broadband can be added later.

Which router should we use in trucks and vans?

The Instaroute IR1180DM is a DIN-rail 4G router with dual SIM and GPS.

Ask us for operating temperature, power input and mounting details for your vehicles before you plan a rollout.

Can handheld scanners and CCTV share the warehouse network safely?

Yes, in separate segments.

VLANs, VRFs and zone firewall rules keep scanners, the WMS, CCTV and guest Wi-Fi apart, and IPS and web filtering run at the edge.

How do we control 4G data costs across hundreds of sites?

Per-SIM data tracking with alarms, usage-based SIM switching and application steering keep bulk traffic off metered links.

SDWAN Lite 2.0 is priced flat per device, with no data metering.

Can Nexapp supply the internet links as well?

Yes. Network as a Service bundles last-mile links from 10,000+ service providers across 100,000+ pin codes with hardware, security, deployment and 24×7 NOC operations, on one subscription per site.

Which logistics or quick-commerce companies use Nexapp?

Blinkit runs on Nexapp. Nexapp has 400+ enterprise and banking customers and 75,000+ devices deployed.

Send us your site list and rollout plan, and we will design the edge, links and policy for each site type.
