Automating remote water pump connectivity
Cellular connectivity for pumping stations, so pumps are monitored and switched from a central SCADA system.
The challenge
Pumping stations are scattered across villages, fields and treatment plants. Without a link, pumps are started, stopped and checked by hand, and faults are found late.
Many pump controllers only speak serial or Modbus, so any network has to work with the equipment already installed.
How Nexapp solved it
Speaks the site's protocols
RS232/RS485 serial ports, a Modbus RTU/ASCII/TCP gateway, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-101/104 and MQTT, so existing controllers and meters connect without replacement.
Cellular links that stay up
Instaroute 4G and 5G routers with dual-SIM failover between two operators, and outdoor IP65 units that mount where the signal is best.
One console for every site
Instaroute SDWAN Lite 2.0 shows the health, signal and data usage of every router, with zero-touch set-up and canary firmware rollout, wave by wave.
Encrypted end to end
IPsec tunnels on NexappOS with hybrid post-quantum key exchange (ML-KEM), on by default, back to the control centre.
What changed
- Pumps are monitored and controlled from the central SCADA system.
- Existing controllers connect without replacement.
- New pump sites come online without an engineer configuring each router.
Planning something similar?
A Nexapp engineer can walk you through this deployment and map it to your own sites, links and devices.
